Home improvements to rejuvenate your home and new lifestyle

With Prime ministers Justin Trudeaus' announcement regarding the ban of travel to our favourite hot destinations and most of the globe,  the stark new reality is setting in. It is safe to say; there will be no safe vacations, no Euro trips, no beach clubs, and no pool bars, for a while… indefinitely actually. What this means for Canadian and Torontonians alike is that as people are stuck at home longer, they are increasingly finding the need to improve their surroundings. With little places to go as most entertainment industries continue to idle in the quake of the pandemic, but there seems to be a fracture of a silver lining. For those who are fortunate enough not to be financially affected by the pandemic, they are carrying extra money in their pockets as a result.

At this time, there is little to no opportunity to travel, buy tickets to shows, dine and generally speaking, live your life the way you intended prior to when 2020 began. This lack of excitement and social commotion has felt a lot of us gloom and down with little to look forward to other than the hope for a steady flow of vaccine numbers available. Having said that, we still find ourselves wanting to get busy, progress and try new things. The combination of this burning untapped energy and an abundance of time spent at home; “people are spending all their time at home and are starting to realize there is some work to be done.

As we are locked down and most of us are spending both work and play time at home, we are starting to take charge of our environment and make some improvements. CBC reports that “months of lockdowns and the seemingly endless purgatory of working from home have Canadians once again opening up their wallets to make their temporary workplaces as tolerable as possible.” [Source: https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/home-renovations-covid-19-1.5703738].

Not only are people vamping up their work spaces but this also includes improvements on our recreational areas around our home-such as your back yard, shed, pool bars, outside dining, cabana bars, garage doors, kitchen renovations or bathroom transformations. CBC continues to state that “In a recent report, Toronto-based real estate consultancy Altus Group calculated that Canadians spent more than $80 billion on home improvements last year, a tally that outpaced growth in the overall economy.

And the year's home renovation boom was especially impressive, considering that the sector shrank by more than five per cent the year before. "If we go back to last spring, interest rates were tumbling, so we were riding quite high," Altus Group's chief economist Peter Norman said in an interview with CBC News. The $80.1 billion that Canadians spent on fixing up existing homes last year was more than they spent on new ones — and it was a big reason why businesses that tail” or to that market were feeling hopeful that 2020 was going to be another strong year.
